Dr. Rick LaFleur's newest book, The Secret Lives of Words, contains 60 lively and informative essays expanded from his nationally syndicated newspaper columns and with more than 200 color photographs, exploring the influences of Latin and ancient Rome on the English language and other aspects of modern culture. Dr. LaFleur, Franklin Professor of Classics Emeritus, taught at UGA for 40 years, 21 of them as department head; during his tenure UGA's Latin program became the largest in all of the nation's colleges and universities.
