Experiential Learning Information

It's a simple concept - when you learn by doing, you learn differently. You learn more. You learn beyond subject matter – you also learn about yourself.

At UGA, Experiential Learning is designed to deliver impact – for our communities, and above all, for our students. Experiential Learning can elevate a student’s trajectory, enhance  competencies and enable opportunities, now and for years to come – that’s why it’s a (required) part of every UGA degree.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING IN CLASSICS

There are several opportunities within the Department of Classics for Experiential Learning.

(1) Study Abroad

UGA Classics Study Abroad programs, led and taught by Classics faculty, take students of all UGA colleges and major programs to Rome and throughout Italy and Europe to explore Classical antiquity and its reception. These enriching programs offer great experiential learning opportunities to add a Classics Major or Classical Culture Minor and to gain valuable career-building skills.

For more information, please visit the Study Abroad page.

(2) CURO Research Projects

Many undergraduates pursue research projects in classics, under the supervision of a faculty mentor. You can earn course credit and satisfy the Experiential Learning requirements by taking credit hours in either Classic Culture, Latin or Greek research classes: CLAS 4960R, 4970R, 4980R, OR 4990R; LATN 4960R, 4970R, 4980R, OR 4990R; GREK 4960R, 4970R, 4980R, OR 4990R. Contact the Undergraduate Coordinator for more information.
