Classics A.B. (Greek and Latin)/Classics M.A. (Greek and Latin)

The Classics AB (Greek and Latin)/Classics MA (Greek and Latin) Double Dawgs program provides excellent instruction in Classical Greek and Latin language and the refinement of translation skills within the cultural contexts of Classical antiquity from Homer to Augustine for careers in language teaching or in in preparation for PhD programs that require strong foundations in the Classical languages and Classical Culture.

Admission to the Program

Students may apply to the Classics AB (Greek and Latin)/Classics MA (Greek and Latin) pathway during the fall semester of the third year. Admittance to the pathway requires a 3.3 overall GPA and 3.3 in all CLAS, GREK or LATN courses. In addition, applicants are required to submit a letter of intent, a transcript, and one letter of recommendation from a CLAS faculty.

Admission to the Graduate Program

Admission to the graduate program occurs by February of the fourth year, for matriculation as an M.A. student in fall of the fifth year. All admissions requirements to the M.A. program are also required for admission to the graduate portion of the Classics (Greek and Latin) Double Dawgs program. The M.A. requires a minimum of 42 hours of CLAS, GREK, and LATN classes.

Undergraduate Programs

UGA Classics explores Greek and Roman culture (material; intellectual; religious) from Troy to Augustine; Classical languages and literatures (Greek, Latin, and in English translation); and the reception of Classical Antiquity with A.B. and M.A. Classics degrees with multiple areas of emphasis. Double Dawgs degrees focus on careers in Historic Preservation and World Language Education.
